EF600 FAQs

Is ice nucleation essential?

In IVF a key factor which determines whether good embryo and oocyte survival is achieved or not is the ability of the operator to initiate ice formation successfully. The EF600 is designed to make this step very efficient and user friendly.

The temperature control of the sample plate is very accurate.

Samples are nucleated on the sample plate without being removed from the freezer (which is the common practice in all other controlled rate freezers). The cryopen offers a simple, reproducible means of ice nucleation.

Samples can be checked to ensure that ice formation has occurred without compromising temperature stabilty - not possible in other controlled rate freezers.

With other cell-types the effects of controlled ice nucleation are less well documented, but in all cases control of ice nucleation will be expected to lead to better recovery upon thawing and less sample to sample variation.
